The Decatur County Fairgrounds Project is a major investment in the county’s economic and tourism future. At its core is the construction of a new Multi-Use Community Building, designed to host up to 600 guests with amenities including a commercial kitchen and potential Purdue STEM Lab space. In 2024, nearly all of the fairgrounds’ more than two dozen paid rentals occurred between March and October, with winter and peak-summer months underperforming by an estimated $24,618 total compared to shoulder-season averages due to the absence of any climate controlled buildings on the fairgrounds campus. The project is part of a broader master plan that includes an equestrian arena, amphitheater, new exhibit buildings, improved camping, and expanded parking. Today, the fairgrounds already attract thousands of visitors through events like Power of the Past and regional baseball tournaments. With this investment, Decatur County will be positioned to host more—and larger—events and trainings, including a partnership for associate training with Honda’s Indiana Auto Plant. The project duration is March 1st, 2025, to June 30th, 2026. READI 2.0 funds will directly support general requirements, masonry, metals, pre-engineered metal building, fire suppression, fire pump/tank, plumbing, earthwork, and engineering. Matching funds will be provided by Decatur County and private donors. The project financing date is December 31st, 2025.
