Quality of Life
The Greensburg St. Mary’s School, a project within the Rural Schools Reimagined bundle and a vacant & blighted property for a decade, is poised for redevelopment into an event space, apartments, and short-term rentals. Owners Evan and Emily Manship, who successfully transformed St. Mary’s Church into a wedding venue, plan to expand this success by restoring the adjacent school and rectory house. Over the last year, the church hosted 45 events, with 30+ more booked through 2026, demonstrating a strong proof of concept. The school’s renovation will convert the oldest section into an open-air courtyard for small events, the gymnasium into a large gathering space with an “outdoor” feel, and four classrooms into studio short-term apartments. Offices will become a leasing office and amenities like a fitness center. Structural damage to the old school will be addressed first, with construction targeted to start June 2025 and conclude by March 2027. READI funds of $1,000,000 and LEI funds of $300,000 will support renovation of the school. Matching funds will be provided by the City of Greensburg and Heritage Hills Events. This project will create much-needed event space and housing, preserving a historic site and enhancing the community. The project will create five part-time jobs with the possibility of one full-time manager with average wages of $25/hr. All matching funds will be secured by December 2025.
